Holiday round-up

The holiday break went largely according to plan, which was great. Laurie and I exchanged our gifts on the 17th, before we flew east. Included in my haul was the latest Ratchet game for the PS2, backgammon, some puzzles, and a few DVDs (two Scrabble documentaries and Muderball). My main gift for her was a Nintendo DS with three games, which should be a good time-killer for the bus. (The DS Animal Crossing is strangely addictive.)

The trip home was good, as always. We did the extended family get-together on the first weekend. We also made sure to see Liam and Vronique early in the week, since they were headed away for Christmas, as was my brother Jason. (In fact, he and Allison passed through Ottawa for New Year's, which worked out well.) Towards the end of the week, we popped into Halifax to see Jackie and Darryn and their three-week-old baby.

Apart from that, most of the time home was spent hanging out with my parents (or playing the afore-mentioned Ratchet and Animal Crossing when they were out.) Since Laurie got them Bohnanza, Coloretto, and Rage for Christmas, we also got in some card games, although the most notable games night was a three-for-three Auction 45s triumph.

After just over a week at home, we flew to Toronto to hang out with Laurie's family for a couple of days. That was also fun, although after being away for so long, it was definitely nice to get back to Ottawa, courtesy of a ride from Laura.

From there, the year wound down in busy fashion. In addition to Laura and her cousin Mike, three of her friends stayed with us for a couple of days, making for a full house, especially after Jason, Allison (and Jasper) arrived. Still, everything went really well for the New Year's Barbecue Classic, with 17 people making it to this year's edition. As usual, Nick took a few pictures at the party.

Not a bad Christmas break.

J.
