Lousy Smarch weather

So, I have no takers as of yet for Coachella (even after Massive Attack was added to the bill!) but the invitation still stands.

Not too much has been on the go this month. Winterlude was somewhat of a bust, as an unseasonably warm opening weekend spoiled the best part of the festivities, the ice sculptures. So far, it has been two crappy years for ice sculptures since I got my new camera. Maybe next time.

I also missed what was, by all accounts, the highlight of this year's festival, Stars performing an outdoor show. They played a full set on Saturday, despite the bitter cold; and I'm sure it would have been one to remember.

For my part, I was at home entertaining company. In contrast to last year's home invasion, which saw seven of Laurie's relatives make the trip (all female), this year's version was limited to just a short visit from her mom and sister. I think that the rest of them are just ducking me at Scrabble. At the risk of repeating myself, maybe next time.

Even without the company, I may not have made it to the concert Saturday, since I've been sick for over a week. If we hadn't been so busy at work, I would have taken at least one day off last week; but as it is, I'm slowly getting healthier.

I've once again concluded that the Olympics just aren't as fun when you're employed. That's especially true when they're held in Europe, since all of the day's competition is over before I get home from work and I've already heard the results. Maybe if all goes well, I'll be laid off for 2010. Then again, just listening to Canada's last hockey game was painful enough--I probably didn't need to see it. Apart from the hockey team, though, it has been a good haul for Canada.

I do actually have some concert news other than mentioning shows that I missed, as things finally pick up this weekend. Saturday sees Cuff the Duke play Ottawa, while Sunday is a Montreal trip for Belle and Sebastian with the New Pornographers.

Oh yes, the other point of interest in the past few weeks was my old philosophy professor making the news for stepping into the debate over the Mohammed cartoons. This was probably the closest that he has yet come to realizing his dream of being ripped apart by an angry mob. Great fun!

J.
