2003-04-12 - 3:12 Pacifist Flett, the wayward son, returned and verified the story that I was expecting: "The testing was an unmitigated disaster." However, after having missed the Dirty Three, he did at least tune in for the consolation prize: DJ Vadim at Babylon tonight. That was a fun show. It's always good to hear that Sixtoo is in the lineup; and the main attraction, DJ Vadim and his Russian Percussion came through strong. The poetess Yarah Bravo was fantastic: beautiful voice, great stage presence, rock-solid delivery; First Rate's showboating turntable style was insane; and Vadim himself was a cool character. The crowd was a little thin (and a little odd), but what can you do? Definitely a funky show. Yarah rocks. J. |
